Stitch Diagrams

You have heard the names of a wide variety of embroidery stitches used in cross-stitch. Here you can learn from a description and a graphical display how to achieve these stitches.

Rice Stitch

1 2

The Rice stitch is usually a double cross stitch with the addition of small diagonal stitches over the leg of the crosses. The additional diagonal stitches are often stitched in another color for an interesting effect.

The stitch is made up of a row of double size cross stitches. Next the additional stitches are worked in with a backstitch method using either the same or a second color.

Figure 2 shows the Rice stitch over 2 threads.
