You have heard the names of a wide variety of embroidery stitches used in cross-stitch. Here you can learn from a description and a graphical display how to achieve these stitches.

Cross Stitch Row - Horizontal (Method 2)

abcde

Cross Stitch (traditional method). When working cross stitch on canvas or working very small areas, the correct method of working is to complete each stitch before commencing the next, as shown in the diagrams.

Bring the needle through at (1), insert the needle at (2), and bring out at (3) , thus forming a half cross. Now insert the needle at (4) and bring out again at (5), thus completing the cross stitch.
Fig. 4 and 5 - show the completed cross stitch with the needle shown in position for the next stitch when working the crosses horizontally. It is important when working cross stitch that the upper half of all crosses should lie in the same direction.
