You have heard the names of a wide variety of embroidery stitches used in cross-stitch. Here you can learn from a description and a graphical display how to achieve these stitches.

 

Cross Stitch Row - Horizontal (Danish Method)

Cross Stitch (Danish method). Bring the thread through at the lower left-hand side, insert the needle 2 threads up and 2 threads to the right and bring out 2 threads down, thus forming a half cross, continue in this way to the end of the row. Complete the upper half of the cross as shown. Cross stitch may be worked either from right to left or left to right, but it is important that the upper half of all crosses should lie in the same direction.
